Founded by Mike Payette and Mathieu Perron in March 2005, Tableau D'Hôte Theatre has produced over a dozen productions including five English Montreal premieres (Tough! , George F. Walker; I Am Yours, Judith Thompson; Amigo's Blue Guitar, Joan Macleod; Jehanne of the Witches, Sally Clark; 7 Stories, Morris Panych; Lion in the Streets, Judith Thompson), and four World Premieres (PrAgression, Mathieu Perron; One Night, Ken Norris; The Elusive, Mike Czuba; Haunted House, Endre Farkas).
Since the beginning Tableau D'Hôte Theatre has understood the difficulty for artists in the beginning of their artistic careers to build a resumé and to find work that allows them to live up to their full potential. With this in mind, Tableau D'Hôte Theatre continues to endorse the development of both professional and emerging artists including but not limited to performers, writers, designers, and directors by showcasing their talent on Montreal stages. In the five years of its existence, the company so far has employed over sixty artists and crew members.
Tableau D'Hôte Theatre has encouraged the exploration of multiple performing arts within the theatre medium. In the case of famed poet Ken Norris' One Night, produced in 2007, a mélange of contemporary dance, poetry, electro-acoustics, and theatre blended together to create a sensual experience for Montreal audiences on the Monument National Studio Hydro Quebec stage. Being the first time Tableau D'Hôte Theatre used poetry as the basis for a script and contemporary dance to mesh it all together, this proved to be a risky production for a company that was only in its second season.
However, audiences appreciated the risk and One Night was went on to receive several awards of recognition.

In 2008-2009, Tableau D'Hôte Theatre became the first company to have three productions in the top ten for Montreal Mirror's annual Best of Montreal poll, with Haunted House, 7 Stories, and Lion in the Streets earning the second, third and fourth slots in for best production, as well as placing second to Montreal's regional theatre Centaur Theatre in the new 'Best Local Theatre Company' category.
Tableau D'Hôte Theatre company members have also received notice and recognition for their individual roles in the artistic community. Mike Payette was awarded the MECCA (Montreal English Critics Circle Award) for Revelation Artist of the Year (2006-07) for his work as an actor, director of Amigo's Blue Guitar and co-founder of Tableau D'Hôte Theatre. For his part. co-Founder Mathieu Perron was elected as Vice-President of the Quebec Drama Federation's Board of Directors. In addition to this, many company family members have since been given opportunities to work in Montreal and abroad. |
